Despite a furore over her presence in the Mideast, Hollywood screen legend
Jane Fonda visited an Israeli town where Israeli and Arab children live in
peace.
Far from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood, Fonda made her way through the
bombed-out and derelict streets of Ramallah. She has come with a very important
purpose, to help bring public discourse to this troubled region.
She visited a hospital for young people who have been injured during
the more than two years of fresh Mideast fighting. Many have criticised Fonda
for her visit, citing her controversial history of pursuing leftist agendas,
but Fonda says her trip has been memorable.
"We can't help but be moved. We can't help but want to commit ourselves
as women to stopping this violence so that no more mothers will lose their
children." Fonda met with children at a meeting in the Israeli village of
Neveh Shalom. She could hardly fight back the tears as she paid witness to
what few people see: unity amongst Israelis and Palestinians. - Reuters
